Magical Women in the News-May 2021
In February this year, I started a new series, Magical Women in the NEWs. Our monthly news are uploaded to YouTube the beginning of each month in collaboration with Abra.TV News.
The NEWS may be seen at two different locations, on our Magical Women YouTube channel and on Abra.TV news. The goal of the new series is to provide topical information on newsworthy events and to be a reliable resource for female talent. We are female success stories; we are women in unconventional careers and we most definitely are an under-represented group.
In our guest-star talk series I’ve interviewed some of the best magic talent in the world today. We also pay homage to magic legends in our vintage video “Blast from the Past” series.
I reach out to magicians and magazine publications searching for general information to be current; striving to be on top of what is happening with women in magic globally. I’m planning to publish our magic news here on Medium each month as well.
May is proving to be a productive month for magic. Restrictions on many social gatherings are being lessened in the UK, Spain and the US.
Joan DuKore is featured on the cover of Genii Magic Magazine this month. Joan is based out of Las Vegas and has enjoyed a long-time residency at the Venetian hotel and casino. Joan performs regularly at the exclusive Magic Castle in Los Angeles and the Genii in-depth feature article is written by David Regal.
Ekaterina is featured on the cover of VANISH International Magazine this month. Ekaterina is an accomplished card flourisher and magician. She was an early adopter on YouTube launching her channel in 2007 with uploads such as tutorials, performances & product reviews. Ekaterina’s followers have literally watched her mature and develop personally and professionally on her channel. Ekaterina was the first guest-star interview on Magical Women in June 2020.
ArteFake, France ‘s e-publication will feature Lisa Menna this month. Lisa is celebrating ten years with her Cause to Wonder Charity and asking for donations through Go Fund Me to raise funds for her next endeavour in Grenada, the West Indies. “Helping Women Brings Good Things”
ArteFake’s Sébastien Bazou has collaborated with Ariann Black this month to publish an intriguing article on Miss Blanche, a highly successful magician, in the 1930’s & early ’40’s. Miss Blanche’s magic will be included in Ariann’s upcoming book about the history of women in magic, which is scheduled to be published later this year. Both Ariann & Sébastien are avid magic historians and this article reflects the dedication and passion they both share.
Magical Women are launching two new guest star talks with the unstoppable Lisa Menna this month, along with a sequel talk with Julie Eng, the executive director of Magicana.
Plus, I’m in the hot seat with the tables turned as Gay Blackstone interviews me in an exclusive Magic Castle, the Academy of Magical Arts, Behind the Bookcase interview hosted by Shoot Ogawa.
Fay Presto is back in heels in the UK performing close-up magic at the exclusive “the NED” where the outdoor roof garden is open. Fay is looking forward to May 15th when restrictions are scheduled to be lifted in the UK and social gatherings will be permitted, thanks to their successful vaccine roll out.
The magical women Blast from the Past series includes Jade performing at the Princess Grace Theatre in Monte Carlo in 1995. Melinda Saxe is featured on Oprah in an episode dedicated to rising young magicians circa 1997. Japan’s Princess Tenko’s performs an under-water escape from 1989. Tracey Newman’s card flourishing skills are highlighted in a comical skit with Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show taped in 1974. Lastly, we offer vintage video footage of child prodigy Daphne Lucille Barnett’s magic from 1937.

More Good News for May, Jen Kramer will re-open her one women, headliner magic show at the Westgate, Las Vegas on May 7th.
Dania Diaz has been performing her close-up magic show, La Maga in Madrid for several months now. La Maga will move to a larger theatre, Teatros Luchana in Madrid on May 8th and Dania will present her 70-minute magic show every Saturday and Sunday.
Solange Kardinaly will be performing her quick-change & magic acts in a magic Gala show on May 8th, at the Teatro Buero Vallejo, in Guadalajara, Spain.
Billy Kidd has been busy developing TV show concepts in the US. She’s just finished consulting for a new show on HBO and in the UK she’s just wrapped up taping a television show airing soon.
On May 20–23 Billy will be performing live in Zaragoza, Spain at the Teatro Principal.
Felice Ling, the founder of the Boston Magic Lab, organises a monthly magic show and on May 20th a virtual show will be hosted by Tori Noquez and will include Lindsey Noel and Suzanne.
The International Forum of Magicians will be held in Moscow, Russia this year on May 24–26th. Jaana Felicita’s distinctive magic and movement act is booked in the Gala show on May 26th.
Carisa Hendrix along with Miranda Allen’s help have been building and marketing Carisa’s original book production for purchase. You can watch that magic in action on Carisa’s Penn and Teller’s Fool Us appearance.
“A Night with Lucy Darling” has ZOOM performances scheduled on May 28th and 29th. For those of you who have seen the show before these next performances contain new material and storylines.

Alexandra DuVivier will be featured on Gaia Elisa Rossi’s “Women in Magic”, the French edition airing at 9pm Italian time on May 28th on Facebook & YouTube.

Josephine Lee will co-star with Chris Cox in Wonderment at the Palace Theatre, in London’s West End this summer July 16 — August 30
Nikola Arkene has been active and productive during the lockdown. She secured a grant from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and built a studio in her home. Nikola started streaming seventeen weekly magic episodes of FizzWizzPop’s ‘Isolation Creation Station’ for families and groups in need of support and engagement due to the Covid Lockdown.
Her second project was to write a book POP! POP! breaks down performing magic for children as FizzWizzPop and creating a character with children’s magic in mind. It’s a passion project in which Nikola shares her experiences and insight with over 200 pictures to compliment the text. POP! Will be available for purchase this summer
