Magical Women are thrilled to report some good NEWS for August as social gatherings are increasing globally and entertainment options are steadily improving.
Léa Kyle’s extraordinary, quick-change, haute couture, magic performance received a “GOLDEN BUZZER” from fashion icon Heidi Klum for her audition act on America’s Got Talent. Stay tuned this month to America’s Got Talent on Tuesdays to watch Léa’s next magical performance in the final rounds.
Grace Chang is featured on the cover of VANISH International Magic Magazine this month along with an in-depth Magical Women feature article. Born into an entertainment dynasty in China, Grace is a third generation magician and entertainer, now firmly established in New York City. Grace’s talent, drive and creativity are engrained in her DNA and I think you will very much enjoy her insight, unusual magical journey and diverse skill sets.
After a some setbacks “WONDERMENT”, which stars illusionist Josephine Lee & mentalist Chris Cox, and other magic and variety stars, including along with “box jumper” and magician Louise Andrée Douglas, opened at the Palace Theatre in London’s West end in the UK last month with performances scheduled through September 5th.
Laura London is performing her one woman show “CHEAT” in London at Electrowerkz on August 12, 13 & 15. Tickets & Showtimes are available at www.laura.london
China’s Ding Yang received FIRST prize for her stellar dove magic act at the online International Brotherhood of Magicians, Adult Stage Magic Competition. DING also had the honor of winning the “People’s Choice Award.”
FISM’s 1997 Manipulation Winner Juliana Chen is starring in “I-Circus”, an ongoing show in Branson Missouri through September with twelve shows weekly.
Magical Women’s the Winners Circle series features AGT Golden Buzzer & Penn & Teller Fool US winner Léa Kyle. Léa Kyle placed 2nd in the GENERAL MAGIC category at the “World Championships of Magic” qualifications in Manresa, Spain last month and with this win she is qualified for FISM 2022 in Quebec Canada.
Also featured in the Winners Circle this month is Alexandra Duvivier’s second sequel talk including winning a Mandrake d’Or.
Alexandra reported “Le Double Fond” in Paris, France celebrated the graduation of their class of students who are now accredited magicians. The graduation ceremony and certification is a result of “Le Double Fond’s” programming, studies and accreditation with the French Government to accept magic as an artform.
The Blast from the Past’s vintage video series includes: Lisa Menna’s performance on “the Best of Magic” from the UK in 1990; Roxanne’s, winning FISM performance from 2000; Wantanabe Yumi’s billiard ball performance from FISM in Japan in 1984; Fay Presto’s “Illusions of Grandeur”, BBC2 broadcast from 1997; Connie Boyd’s “Guitar Suspension Illusion” from the World Magic Awards in 1999 and an episode of Princess Tenko’s magic and cartoon series “Tenko & the Guardians” television show series from 1995.
EVENTS in August: Ekaterina is presenting a “Penguin LIVE lecture” on August 1st. It’s filled with useful, unusual magic techniques and routines as well as magic teachings with Ekat’s clear, clean and easy to follow instructions.
The Chicago Magic Lounge is re-opening to the public on August 2nd. Paige Thompson holds the honor of being the first performer to be booked in the 654 Club, Close Up Room, August 2 through 8th. Paige will also perform in the “Showcase” shows every Tuesday evening in August.
Gay Blackstone the executive producer of “Masters of Illusion” reports the show will complete their contract at Harrah’s Atlantic City on August 4th. “Masters of Illusion” will begin their nationwide tour in September.
ARTEFAKE, France features Diana Zimmerman in August. Diana’s accomplishments and credits include being a successful author of the “Kandide” book series, a magic inventor, a multiple production companies CEO, the “Magic Castle Junior Program” co-founder and more.
Congratulations to Careena Fenton for her article “Burn her She’s a Witch” published in the Magic Circle’s, UK, “Magic Circular” monthly magic magazine.
Malin Nilsson’s innovative, creativity included a local bicycle tour in Malmo, Sweden performing street magic.
On August 11th, Carisa Hendrix, Paul Romhany and Chris Westfall are appearing together at the “Annual Magic Show” sponsored by the Saskatoon Firefighters in Saskatoon, Canada
August 20 to 21 Dania Diaz will perform at the “International Festival of Magic” at Villa de Sarria in Spain
On August 26th, Abigail McBride will host her annual “Sisters of Mystery” event. The impressive list of presenters includes, Gay Blackstone, Lupe Nielsen, Meadow Perry, Suzanne the Magician, Charlotte Pendragon, Sara Crasson Joan Dukore and more. The event will be presented on ZOOM and begins at 10:00am Pacific time.
Dania Diaz’s “La Maga” show continues to play every Sunday at 8:00pm at the Luchana Theatre in Madrid, Spain.
On August 28th Dania will debut a new children & family show also at the Luchana Theatre called AbracaDania.
Joan Dukore will be performing at Smoke and Mirrors in Philadelphia on the 27 and 28th of August.
Also on August 28th, Lucy Darling, supported by Marci and Lawerence, will host their final online appearance of their much-loved, very successful ZOOM pandemic show “a Night In with Lucy Darling.”
August 27 -28 the first Annual Inclusivity and Diversity Magic Conference will be held virtually from 3–6 PT & 6–9pm ET. The theme is history and the inaugural event is presented by McBride Magic and Mystery School.
Suzanne the Magician is scheduled to host a Cups and Balls Master Class at the Magic Castle the end of the month. Details can be sourced closer to the date on the Magic Castle website.
